DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Trend Micro Incorporated (TYO: 4704; TSE: 4704), a global leader in security software and solutions, today announced the winners of its second annual Capture the Flag (CTF) cybersecurity competition for engineers. Team 217 came away with the grand prize of 1,000,000JPY (nearly 10,000USD), 15,000 Zero-Day Initiative (ZDI) reward points and automatic qualification for HITCON CTF 2016 final.

Trend Micro CTF 2016 attracted 1,626 players as part of 952 teams from 79 countries and regions around the world. To be eligible, participants were required to be at least 20 years old. The finals, held November 19 – 20, 2016 in Tokyo, included teams from 10 countries and regions.

The final event was structured in an “attack and defense” format that tested players’ technical knowledge in various categories, such as targeted attacks, Internet of Things (IoT), Industrial Control Systems (ICS) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA). The top ten teams from the online qualifier, which was held July 30-31, 2016, advanced to compete in the final event.
