The greatest threat to global cyber security today, according to Internet Security Systems researcher Josh Corman, may be your mother’s computer.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Gap Inc. announced Friday that a laptop containing the personal information of about 800,000 job applicants was stolen from the offices of one of its vendors that manages data for the company.

The San Francisco-based retailer said it has begun notifying on Thursday those applicants whose Social Security numbers were included in the information on the laptop.

The SMB network security market is heating up. In-Stat estimates that the worldwide security appliance market is poised for steady, if slowing, growth, reaching over $5.5 billion by 2011. A large part of this growth is sure to be driven small businesses, all of which need protection. Forrester estimates that 39% of small businesses will "significantly upgrade their security environment" and 44% will "significantly upgrade their disaster recovery capabilities" this year.
