Trend Micro Incorporated (TYO: 4704; TSE: 4704), a global pioneer in security software, announced today a joint collaboration with Broadcom Corporation in the development of an integrated security solution optimized to protect home security networks from cyber threats and improve network visibility without compromising performance.
"Our integrated security solution for the home network gateway is unique to the market with its easy-to-use, yet powerful capabilities," said Dr. Terence Liu, Vice President, Network Threat Defense at Trend Micro. "With malicious traffic being blocked and security events being tracked and monitored, home users will be able to enjoy improved clarity of their Internet usage habits and an improved user experience. Trend Micro's proven leadership in cyber security technology is a tremendous asset for this home offering."
As the proliferation of network applications becomes more interweaved with emerging smart appliances and wearable technology, new challenges have emerged for home gateways, including easier access to unacceptable content, poorly configured software stacks and growing cyber-attacks related to Internet of Things (IoT) gadgets. IoT refers to how everyday products and appliances are increasingly being designed and manufactured with Internet connectivity in mind. Today's Internet-connected products range from TVs and refrigerators to cars.
"The IoT trend should constantly remind users that anything and everything that can go online can be hacked," said Kevin Simzer, Chief Marketing Officer, Trend Micro. "Our ongoing collaboration with Broadcom will lead to advanced solutions optimized to effectively protect against would-be cyber criminals emerging from the evolving IoT ecosystem."
Trend Micro's home security solution utilizes enterprise-level anti-intrusion, a home gateway configuration integrity check and server reputation services designed to protect Internet connected devices from exploits, safeguarding privacy and valuable information. It is configured for IoT devices, network applications, software vulnerabilities and URL reputation, and enables users to manage their entire home network environment. With the ability to identify more than 1,000 devices and 3,000 applications, the legacy traffic prioritization function improves granularity and efficiency. The parental control functionality is also more effective at managing Internet usage.
Broadcom's 5G WiFi XStream technology delivers twice the bandwidth of existing 802.11ac routers and gateways, and provides advanced software to double the performance of today's best-selling Wi-Fi devices for high-definition (HD) streaming and data consumption. By offering Wi-Fi data rates of up to 3.2 Gbps, Broadcom's 5G WiFi XStream delivers an ideal experience for simultaneously consuming more data, connecting Internet of Things devices and streaming HD content to multiple screens.
"Trend Micro's proven leadership in cyber security technology is a tremendous asset for the home gateway," said Rahul Patel, Vice President and General Manager, Wireless Connectivity at Broadcom. "While easy to use and configure, it is also highly effective in monitoring and blocking potential security threats. Broadcom's market leading 5G WiFi and 5G WiFi XStream platforms provide the high performance needed to seamlessly run Trend Micro's advanced security solution."
