CUPERTINO, Calif., Dec. 21, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Trend Micro is leading the worldwide market for corporate endpoint server security with an estimated 22.9 percent market share, according to a recently published report by IDC. The "Worldwide Endpoint Security 2010-2014 Forecast" November 2010, market analysis report identifies server security as a new sub-segment of the endpoint security market.
Revenue was up 13.2 percent in the third quarter from global server sales, according to the IDC research firm. (1) With shipments of virtualized servers growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 14 percent from 2009 to 2014, "IDC expects that this robust growth in server virtualization will continue through 2014 as datacenter adoption is increasingly considered mainstream in mature economies and as organizations in emerging regions look for data center efficiencies while they rapidly increase their server investments over the period". (2)
As more enterprises use virtual servers, they will be searching for security solutions that will protect the server hosting the virtualized environment; the hypervisor; and shield the virtual servers from malware and hacker attacks.
"With data center consolidation, along with the rise of virtualization, VDI, and cloud computing applications, more and more computing power and data itself are moving into data centers and servers," said Eva Chen. "It doesn't matter whether the servers are physical, virtual, inside the corporate data center, or in the cloud; these servers and, more importantly, the data need to be secure. Server security market leadership is strategically important for Trend Micro, and we intend to continue to innovate to develop breakthrough solutions solving real customer problems for cloud security."
In the report, IDC defines the server security category as: "Solutions [that] include antimalware, desktop firewall, and host intrusion detection and prevention software that is designed to maintain the integrity of servers. These products primarily protect the operating system of servers to ensure that the systems do not run malicious software that can compromise the business applications and data on the servers. These products are generally more robust than desktop endpoint security and are available for a much wider set of operating systems (Windows, Unix, and Linux). This category also includes products that are designed to protect hypervisors and virtual servers."
Trend Micro has several solutions in its portfolio to secure servers and data in virtualized and cloud environments. One of them is Trend Micro™ Deep Security, which provides advanced security for physical, virtual, and cloud servers.
